Client: Chicago Gateway Green
Event: Chicago Gateway Green’s TREEcago Initiative Press Conference, October 25, 2008
In an effort to address the problem of urban-heat islands within Chicago, Chicago Gateway Green (CGG) partnered with the City of Chicago, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and corporate partners to launch the Tree Partnership program, transforming vacant plots of land along the Dan Ryan Expressway and Bishop Ford Freeway into tree-filled green spaces in support of Chicago’s Climate Strategy Action Plan. As an expansion to this program, CGG launched the TREEcago initiative in the fall of 2008 to introduce these efforts into Chicago neighborhoods. CGG approached MD&A to organize a unique press conference to feature the program kick-off. More than 150 volunteers planting 100 trees gathered for the Tree Partnership TREEcago kick-off, where MD&A coordinated media relations and the event presentation, including an appearance by Mayor Daley and a check presentation ceremony by Bank of America. The event successfully spread the word about the new program, and has since attracted hundreds of volunteers and new sponsors for executing this initiative.
While the client, Chicago Gateway Green, was busy managing volunteer efforts planting trees for the program, the MD&A team stepped in to coordinate the event presentation. MD&A managed press conference logistics, presentation program coordination, and ensured press conference production and overall site management.
